Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji is a slice of life film about three men – Naren, Milind and Abhay and their encounters with love!
There is an apparent resemblance to the much-acclaimed Basu Chatterjee’s 1981 romantic comedy Shaukeen which had three older men trying to get naughty in their elderly age. A listless Naren Ahuja (Ajay Devgn), 38, working as a bank manager, is going through a divorce. He is going through a ‘mid-life crisis”. He has a job that he hates and a marriage that’s falling apart. All he needs is some love to infuse freshness into his boring, listless life.
Naren falls in love with a vibrant and bubbly June Pinto (Shazahn Padamsee) who has just stepped out of her teens. June is a vivacious and impulsive 21 year old girl. She is full of happiness and life! She works as an intern at a bank where Naren is the bank manager. Raised by her granny, she is sweet, innocent and childlike!
Going through divorce proceedings, Naren leaves his abode and starts living in his parents’ house. Being along in life, he decides to let out a few rooms on rent as well. Abhay and Milind are thrown out of their rented apartments and they both land up as paying guests for Naren. Hence, the three of them start living together.
Milind Kelkar (Omi Vaidya), a naive poet and an idealistic lover, is enamoured by an ambitious and practical Gungun Sarkar (Shradha Das) who is determined to follow her dreams. Milind, 30, is an idealist when it comes to love. He works with a matrimonial website and searches for perfect grooms and brides for his clients but is yet to find one for himself! A self confessed virgin, Milind is a true-blue romantic who expresses himself through his poetry.
Belonging to Kolkata, Gungun works in Mumbai as a radio jockey but aspires to be famous someday and make her mark as an actress. A focused individual, she is determined to make her dreams come true.
Abhav Suri (Emraan Hashmi), is originally from Delhi and works as a gym trainer in Mumbai. ‘Love’ is a feeling that’s alien to him and ‘commitment’ is a word he has never heard. All Abhay wants is money and women. Being a rich married woman’s boyfriend Abhay had his all lavish expenses managed from the elite lady Anushka Narang (Tisca Chopra).
A charming casanova Abhav, 28, starts feeling an alien emotion called love, when he feels increasingly drawn towards Nikki Narang (Shrutti Hassan), a modern girl who knows her needs and speaks her mind. Nikki is a 23 year old US return girl who has found her true calling in service towards humanity. Intelligent and well-read, she is mature beyond her age and knows what she wants out of life. Unfortunately for Abhay, Nikki turns out to be Anushka Narang’s daughter.
Ajay is naturally versatile, effortlessly underpaying his part. Emraan, keeps up to his lady chaser image on screen, while the endearing Omi Vaidya plays his character with earnestness.
About the girls, its Shazahn who is the real discovery as the attractive PYT in the office in Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji. She adds freshness in the story, while Shraddha is rightly the practical struggling girl. Shruti Hassan has few amusing scenes with Emraan and Tisca Chopra is appealing in her upper class character.
Once again, Madhur Bhandarkar comes up with an entertaining film with real life like characters and relatable situations this time his flick takes a humorous look at love and the extent people will go to dodge or conquer it.
Though Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji is certified as ‘Adults Only’ by the Censors, there is a lot of adult and bold is visible in the television soaps these days, hence we have categorized it as suitable for General Audience.
